Her rise to fame accelerated when musician and compere Raymond Albuquerque discovered her talent during her rendition of the popular English song “Where the Boys Are” at a performance on Marve Beach in Mumbai.

Impressed by her singing abilities, Albuquerque invited Lorna to perform at his musical shows, including one at “Wigwam” in Bandra Mount Mary’s feast in September.

Lorna’s English singing captivated audiences wherever she performed, and her career reached a turning point when Chris Perry entered the picture in 1962 when she was around 16 or 17 years old.

Unfortunately, Lorna’s relationship with Chris Perry, a married man 16 years her senior, turned tumultuous. Perry became her musical partner and mentor for the next nine years, during which Lorna signed a contract that later caused immense hardship in her life.

Due to the contract, Lorna was barred from singing and went into exile on August 9, 1973. Her career took a tragic turn as her relationship with Chris Perry brought turmoil into her life and his own.

They fought and became bitter enemies, causing Lorna to turn to alcohol and disappear from the music scene in Goa. Speculation about her whereabouts arose, with rumors suggesting she had settled in Canada, while the truth remained unknown.

Lorna’s famous career abruptly came to a halt in 1972/73, and for decades she remained out of the public eye. Many believed she she was no more, but made an  unexpected comeback in 1995.

All the more surreal and joyous for her admirers. Lorna made her return to the music world with a new album titled “Hello Lorna,” and her comeback show at Miramar Panjim drew an enthusiastic and capacity crowd.

Though she couldn’t come to Goa due to other commitments, the fan had the privilege of recording both songs with Lorna in Mumbai.
